It begins in 1988, when the Palestinian teenager Noor is seriously injured by Israeli soldiers during a demonstration in the West Bank. For Noor's mother Hanan (Cherien Dabis), this feels like a logical chapter in her family's history of hardship. They once owned a productive orange plantation in Jaffa. During the Israeli War of Independence in 1948, Israeli troops attacked the town and the family had to flee to the West Bank. The grandfather takes the key to the old house with him - the trauma of the expulsion lingers on for generations. In her drama, which was celebrated at the Sundance Festival, US-born director Cherien Dabis, who is of Palestinian descent, filters around 60 years of Palestinian history, from the "Nakba", the expulsion in 1948, to the present day - conse-quently from the perspective of a single family.
