Talented literature student Agnes (Eva Victor) attends a university in rural Massachusetts. A fling with her attractive, popular doctoral supervisor ends tragically; an initially consensual physical approach leads to an attempted rape. A sexual assault is invariably an attack that leaves the victim devastated and in her directorial debut "Sorry, Baby", Eva Victor shows in a haunting way how much strength it takes to carry on after such an attack on body and soul - not as before, but somehow. The director tells her story in five chapters, but not chronologically. She depicts striking situations from Agnes' life before and after the crime, but shifts the time levels in the process. She also manages to interweave the serious subject with moments of subtle humor and even a touch of romance, for example when Agnes begins an affair with her neighbor. But although the student's university career continues to progress, the assault remains a defining event even years later. Eva Victor stages and plays this not bitterly, but with black-humored sadness and melancholy. And at some point, the title of the film becomes clear. "Sorry, baby, we have to live with it." On the one hand, it sounds like resignation - but at the same time also like acceptance and new beginnings.
