Das Sommernachtstraum - Musical

In the organizer's words:

with dramatic passages, sonnets and texts by Shakespeare & Co as well as music by Radiohead, Adele, Supertramp, Bjork & Robbie Williams, illustrated by sand painter Olga Lysytska.

On Midsummer's Eve, people, animals and elves celebrate nature, which gives us the longest day of the year and the shortest night of the year. From dawn to dusk, the party goes on for several days and perhaps it is the lack of sleep, or maybe just the party mood, that makes us forget the constraints of society and blurs the boundaries to the world of magic for a short time.

Puck, servant of the fairy king Oberon, guides us through this Midsummer Night's Dream. We meet lovers and madmen in search of true love and the search for themselves. They are driven by passion, jealousy or thirst for power and sometimes it takes a little pinch of magic for them to realize how love can sometimes deceive and transform us.

In this musical collage, the Opernwerkstatt am Rhein combines literary texts with well-known rock and pop songs performed by a live band. Zettel's Dream, for example, combines a passage from Arno Schmidt's novel of the same name with Zettel's description of how he was transformed into a donkey, a love affair with the fairy queen Titania from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and Martin Luther King's vision "I had a dream", all accompanied by the music of Mamas&Papa's "Dream a little dream".

In addition to all the stories performed, the audience experiences how sand painter Olga Lysytska creates pictures before their eyes: beautiful, but as fleeting as the night. With a wipe, the work of art that has just been created disappears or is transformed into another picture. In this Midsummer Night's Dream, we offer our audience the opportunity to immerse themselves in other worlds and escape the confusion of everyday life for a while.

A production of the Opernwerkstatt am Rhein with Carl Bruchhäuser, Elias Heiligendorff, Viktoria Küppers, Mona Mucke, Stefan Peters, Neele Pettig and Ana Ramirez.
