In the year 99 AD, a small settlement on the Via Julia Roman road near Isinisca/Helfendorf finds itself in great distress: there are no offspring, a young man would rather dream of the legion than of marriage. A secret Roman project adds to the charged atmosphere. Love, dreams, politics, intrigue - the world of yesteryear becomes very modern.

There is only one solution to everything: an inn. The inn on the Via Julia.

What is it about?

Worries about the next generation, Roman plans and a village community full of interests

The province of Raetia on the Via Julia, the long-distance road from Augsburg to Salzburg in the year 99 A.D. A village settlement near Isinisca/Helfendorf is in great distress: it needs new blood, otherwise the Celtic-Bavarian future is in danger. Two young dirndls stand ready, a boy is to choose. But he doesn't think about it and turns them both down because he wants to join the legion. Crisis, catastrophe. At the same time, something is happening with the Romans. A centurion from Augsburg is sent to investigate whether a fort should be built at the site. A fort means soldiers and soldiers mean revenue. Markets, popinae (taverns), amusement and gambling houses. That arouses interest. Many. Corruptible officers, Celtic speculators, desperate villagers, lovers and pseudo-heroes, a whimsical druid, good beer, two traveling Roman women in search of happiness, a bizarre travel writer - finally they all meet in one house: the inn on the Via Julia.

There is singing and arguing, but would a comedy from antiquity be complete without a Roman deus ex machina and a Bavarian happy ending?

Brauereistadl Aying

The Brauereistadl provides the ideal setting for a comedy in which an open-air atmosphere, history, song, controversy and Bavarian humor come together.

For the duration of the production, the area around the barn is transformed into a Celtic village.

Directions & Parking
A8 towards Salzburg, exit Hofoldinger Forst, continue towards Aying.
Continue along Münchner Straße and Untere Dorfstraße in the direction of Biersee.

Parking is available at the back of the barn.
Please follow the signs.

Arrival by public transport
Take the S6 in the direction of Kreuzstraße to Aying. From there, the Brauereistadl can be reached on foot in approx. 17 minutes.

Admission times
Admission begins one hour before the start of the performance.

Accessibility
The site is generally barrier-free. However, depending on the weather, wheelchair access may be restricted in places.

About the Ayinger Gmoa Kultur e.V.

Ayinger Gmoa Kultur e.V. stands for cultural commitment in and around Aying. With theater productions, the music festival "Nuancen" and the "Young Stage" as the children's and youth department of the association, it brings people of all ages together and makes culture a local experience.

With "Ein Wirtshaus an der Via Julia", the association is building on its previous theater projects.
The play takes up a story from the community's history and brings it to life in a specially commissioned work by Marcus Everding.
