Exhibition from September 6 to October 2, 2024
Opening Thursday, September 5, 2024, 6 to 9 pm

In 2024, 'Being in-between' provides the conceptual superstructure for nine short, individual artistic presentations that explore the theme in its various aspects. Being in-between can be a thought, a state or even a feeling. We want to understand being in-between as a possibility to see more and to grasp different perspectives at the same time.

As part of a larger collaborative project, 'Dazwischensein 7' takes an artistic approach to the inter- and transdisciplinary research project 'Grenzgänge', with experts from religious studies, cultural and literary studies, theology, philosophy, ethnology and history investigating selected facets of the relationship between religion and the Alps. The topic will be explored in an intensive exchange with music, art and photography. The publication 'Grenzgänge - Religion und die Alpen' will be presented as part of Dazwischensein 7.

Sandra Boeschenstein (*1967 in Zurich) lives and works in Zurich. Boeschenstein initially studied philosophy and art history at the University of Zurich and after two years switched to studying art at the Bern University of the Arts. She spent many scholarships in Stuttgart, Berlin, Paris, Bucharest and São Paulo, among others. Her work includes drawings on paper as well as large-scale drawings in situ. She sees drawing as her primary tool of cognition and thus explores the border areas between the tangible and intangible, between image and language, between epistemic and poetic qualities. At the center of her attention are the manifold transitions between perception and thought. Boeschenstein works with the build-up and decay energies of meanings and makes what she calls the "loose contact between language and matter" tangible. "When is something and how does it acquire meaning? How do situation, image and language touch each other? What does an insight look like that beckons between material, image and language and cannot be extracted any further?" are central questions that characterize her work. Boeschenstein's works have been exhibited internationally, including 2009 Aargauer Kunsthaus, 2009 Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, 2015 Arter Istanbul, 2016 Hamburger Kunsthalle, 2022 CEUMA São Paulo and Museum zu Allerheiligen Schaffhausen.

Interview partner: Prof. Dr. Daria Pezzoli-Olgiati (*1966) teaches and researches religious studies and the history of religion, since 2016 at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich. She is interested in the relationship between religion and media, especially film and art. Her publications and research focus on different aspects of religion as a phenomenon that strongly shapes contemporary culture.

Lion Bischof (*1988 in Munich) studied documentary film at the University of Television and Film in Munich and received a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation. He made the films 'Station: Pathology', 'Hinterwelten' and 'Tara', which was shown at the 2016 Berlinale, as part of the Motelfilm directing collective. In 2018, his documentary 'Germania' (director & producer) was shown at the Max Ophüls Festival and won an award. It was shown in cinemas in 2019. He also works as a cameraman and video artist and has worked on theater productions with Falk Richter and Jan-Christoph Gockel at the Münchner Kammerspiele, the Schaubühne Berlin and the Schauspiel Frankfurt as well as the Nationaltheater in Strasbourg, among others.
