De Knippschaff @ Kornkammer - Weihnachtskonzert
In the organizer's words:
The group led by Annette Fuchs was founded in 2011 and was delighted to welcome Kafi Biermann and Bömmel Lückerath into
their ensemble. Hans Knipp is often called Cologne’s least-known celebrity, because almost everyone has sung along to at least one of his songs, yet few are familiar with his name. Whether it’s a popular hit or a rarely played ballad, hardly anyone has left such an unmistakable musical mark on Cologne as he has. His lyrics shed light on the quirks and charm of this city and its residents with warmth and a touch of humor.
The Knippschaff has dedicated itself to his musical legacy and is bringing
his well-known and lesser-known songs back to the stage. It’s not all
Carnival, but by the end, the audience is singing along and swaying as the accordion, guitar
and bass take the stage.
What’s less well known is that among the hundreds of songs Hans Knipp gave to Cologne
, there are also quite a few Christmas songs. In his wonderful way, he
written contemplative ballads on this theme, as well as parodies of Cologne quirks
. “Winter im Dörp,” for example, sounds like a landscape frozen in the snow,
while “Schöne Bescherung” loudly proclaims that Christmas Eve doesn’t
always have to be “a silent night.” Herod is called a
a scoundrel and a scumbag, while in the next song the Christ Child gently
as a Rhine boatman.
It’s an evening that’s only partly contemplative, but 100% mischievous.
