Many musicians pursue the dream of making unique music that they love and being successful with it. Only a few succeed in realizing this: Dead Poet Society are one of them. With their authentic rock sound, the band from Los Angeles is breaking the established conventions and has long been more than just an insider tip for music nerds. Their single ".intoodeep." has over 16 million streams on Spotify, where more than 440,000 people listen to their music every month. Over the past 3 years, Dead Poet Society have played at Download Festival (UK), 2000 Trees, Tons Of Rock, Rocklahoma, Pinkpop, Aftershock and Rock For People, as well as touring the US, Europe and the UK several times, including supporting Badflower. At the beginning of next year, the band will return to Germany for 4 shows: from February 22nd to March 10th, they can be seen in Munich, Berlin, Hamburg and Cologne.
Musically comparable to a metallic version of Twenty One Pilots, the US answer to Muse, and an impetuous but determined alt-pop drive familiar from Bring Me The Horizon, Dead Poet Society write their own musical language - full of experimental versatility. The fact that their music stands out from that of other bands early on may have something to do with the fact that all four musicians studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where they also founded the band in the early 2010s. If you take a closer look at their music, it quickly becomes clear how much finesse and passion there is in the instrumentals, which gain in catchiness thanks to Jack Underkofler 's magnificent hooks. Dead Poet Society 's music is complex, but never overly cerebral.
Dead Poet Society released their first EP "Weapons" back in 2013. It took another year for their single "Sound and Silence" to become better known in 2014. Two EPs followed with " Axiom" (2015) and "Dempsey" (2016) alongside several singles, such as the successful track "American Blood" (2018). In 2019, the band toured the USA as support for Badflower. In 2020 they signed with Spinefarm Records and in 2021 their debut album
"-!". Tracks like ".CoDA." master a balancing act between southern rock, progressive borrowings and influences that can clearly be located in metal, while ".SALT." rolls in a depressing atmosphere with low-tuned nu-metal guitars à la Korn. Straightforwardness is not an attribute that should be ascribed to Dead Poet Society 's music. Their music delivers what other bands promise but rarely keep: a completely individual, authentic sound that is difficult to categorize.
The new single "Running In Circles", released on September 7, 2023, is just as independent, bombastic and driving as the band's debut album and provides a first taste of Dead Poet Society 's constantly reinventing sound. The band's return to Germany in early 2024 follows on from a sold-out headline show in Hanover in June 2023. They will be supported by Ready The Prince from Toronto.
