The DEFA - Film Studios of the GDR - celebrate their 80th birthday and FORTUNA celebrates with them

Films are also flickering across the big and small screens at FORTUNA - Kino der Jugend. On Saturday, May 16, 2026, the cult comedy "Two Weird Birds" is one of the last DEFA films to be shown in cinemas before the end of the GDR. Taboo topics such as rent debts or the existence of the parallel currency Forumscheck were shown in a satirically exaggerated way. Real computer systems from GDR production can also be seen.

Leipzig computer science students Frank Lettau and Peter 'Kamminke' Galetzki are best friends. For their diploma thesis, they are working on a computer program that can find and correct errors in its own software. They spend their free time with the singer Gina, with whom they are both in love and who in turn loves the two boys equally. As being sent to different places of work after graduation is not an option for the pair, they provoke their joint transfer to the deepest provinces. There, too, the friends cause a great deal of unrest.
