The hypochondriac Argan is desperate: his medical treatments are getting more and more expensive! He thinks he can save money by marrying off his daughter Angelique to a doctor. But he has made this plan without the resolute maid Toinette. She not only doubts his illness, but also cures his delusion. In the end, it seems best for Argan to become a doctor himself. After all, you can even get a doctorate for money.

The terminally ill Molière played Argan himself on February 17, 1673. And died after the performance. Still in costume.
