In post-Napoleonic France, Edmond Dantès is convicted as a result of an intrigue, even though he is innocent. The young sailor loses his freedom and his great love: he ends up in prison, while the schemers take his lover Mercedes from him and make a career for themselves. After 14 years, Dantès manages to escape. Thanks to a great treasure, he can now take revenge as the mysterious Count of Monte Cristo and win Mercedes back. Frank Wildhorn, whose musical hits on Broadway include Jekyll & Hyde and Dracula, composed this timeless revenge epic for Theater St. Gallen in 2009, based on the novel of the same name by Alexandre Dumas the Elder, with a brilliant orchestral soundtrack underpinned by electric guitars. A must for anyone who loves adventure, romance and musicals.
