F. S. Fitzgerald (1896-1940) was the literary spokesman of the "Jazz Age". In his books, he captured the glittering New York of the interwar years, which was enthusiastic about the rhythms of Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong, without ignoring the question of whether this glamor was deceptive. "The Great Gatsby", his masterpiece published in 1925, is not only one of the great tragic love stories of world literature, but also a swan song to the American dream in all its exuberance and hedonism, its decadence and passion.
