Der Grüffelo

You can hardly be too young or too old for 'Grüffelo'. This is just as true for the wonderful picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler as it is for the stage version of the story, which was premiered by the London children's theater 'Tall Stories'. 'Grüffelo' has already thrilled almost two million theatergoers in England, and now the Junges Theater Bonn and Tall Stories London have jointly produced the German-language premiere of the musical for audiences aged 3 and over.

A little mouse lives on the edge of a deep, dark forest. One day, the mouse is particularly hungry and sets off into the forest to look for nuts. Little does he know that there are some animals in the forest who are just as hungry as he is and who would love to eat the mouse. But the mouse is clever and knows how to help himself. When he meets the cunning fox, he simply invents a friend: the Gruffalo - a monster with fiery eyes, terrible claws, a horrible paw and a poisonous wart on his face. When the fox hears this, he is terrified and flees from the little mouse. And that also works with the owl and the snake. What luck that the monster doesn't really exist, because the mouse only made him up... But then he is actually faced with a monster that looks like the Gruffalo. And now the mouse has a problem, because Grüffelo's favorite dish is - of all things - sandwiches with little mouse. But the clever little mouse is not intimidated and even teaches the big, strong Grüffelo to be afraid...

'Der Grüffelo' is a modern fairy tale in which the courage of the little ones triumphs over the fear of the big ones. Published in 1999, 'Grüffelo' became one of Britain's most successful children's books and is already considered a modern classic. The imaginative rhymes and ideas of author Julia Donaldson and the loving drawings by illustrator Axel Scheffler have earned 'Grüffelo' several awards. Among other things, the book was awarded the prestigious British 'Nestlé Children's Book Prize', translated into more than 30 languages and sold more than 10 million copies.
