Micha Hartung (Charly Hübner), a Berlin video store owner on the verge of bankruptcy, inadvertently becomes an all-German hero: On the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, a journalist stylizes him as the mastermind behind the largest mass exodus in the GDR - and suddenly Micha's life is turned upside down.

As an impostor against his will, Micha becomes entangled in a web of half-truths and outright lies. But then he meets Paula (Christiane Paul): a clever, successful and witty woman who captures his heart - despite all the lies that overshadow their budding love story.
