Hero against his will: Charly Hübner and Christiane Paul in Wolfgang Becker's last film. The director of tragicomedies such as "Das Leben ist eine Baustelle" (1997) and "Good Bye, Lenin!" (2003) passed away on December 12, 2024, shortly after the end of filming. Based on the novel by Maxim Leo.

The story of Berlin video store owner Micha Hartung (Charly Hübner), who is on the verge of bankruptcy and inadvertently becomes an all-German hero: When a journalist stylizes him as the mastermind behind the largest mass exodus in the GDR on the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, his life is suddenly turned upside down. As an impostor against his will, Micha becomes entangled in a tangle of half-truths and outright lies. And when his life threatens to sink into chaos, he meets Paula (Christiane Paul).

Wolfgang Becker's artistic companions, director Achim von Borries and producer Stefan Arndt, have completed the film adaptation of Maxim Leo's novel of the same name in his spirit.
