Der Karl, der Posa und der Philipp

In the organizer's words:

Karl, Posa and Philipp and the affair with Eboli

based on Schiller's DON KARLOS

The son believes in his love, the friend in his duty, the father in violence.

Spain in the 16th century. A global empire. Distrust, surveillance, coercion, violence; the Inquisition celebrates its murders. While resistance stirs in the colonies.

Karlos wants his father's wife (who was previously his). His friend Posa wants a world without abuse of power. King Philip, lonely in totalitarian majesty, wants "a human being". He sees this in the Marquis Posa. The deep friendship between Karlos and Posa has escaped the absolutist surveillance. Which is fortunate, because otherwise we would have to do without an encounter between ruler and "heretic" in which many a wall falls...

Then there is "the affair with Eboli": misunderstanding, jealousy, revenge, intrigue.

What do we think of Schiller's ideals? Do we like what happens in our world for safety's sake? What do we believe in? What about our HUMAN IMAGE? Have we shredded it in the end under the verdict of "man is to blame for everything"? What does FREEDOM mean in an age of misused and meaningless terms? Do we receive more RESPECT from those in power today than in previous centuries (rhetorically)? And how much LOVE do we ourselves have for ourselves and our NEIGHBORS?
