Der Lehrer, der uns das Meer versprach

Spain, 1935: Shortly before the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, young teacher Antoni Benaiges takes over the elementary school in a small, remote village in the province of Burgos. Thanks to his progressive, anti-authoritarian teaching methods, he quickly builds a trusting relationship with his class. But his friendly interaction with the children is viewed with suspicion by parents and village leaders. And then Benaiges makes a promise to his students: During summer vacation, he wants to show them the sea, which the children have never seen before. The children’s parents are highly skeptical of this idea… 75 years later, in 2010, Ariadna, the granddaughter of one of his former students, researches the moving story of Antoni Benaiges and discovers the immense resistance this charismatic man had to overcome.
