Der Nowak, die Torte und der Vorderzahn – Theaterabend mit Chansons von Cissy Kraner und Hugo Wiener

"Der Nowak lässt mich nicht verkommen", "Ich wünsch' mir zum Geburtstag einen Vorderzahn" or "Wie man eine Torte backt": With these songs, Cissy Kraner and Hugo Wiener became the most famous Viennese cabaret duo of the post-war period.

But their story begins much earlier. Thanks to an invitation from the Femina revue stage to Colombia, the Jew Hugo Wiener managed to escape from the Nazis in 1938. In the ensemble is the singer Cissy Kraner, very young and "quite goschert" - a Viennese synonym for "cheeky and not at all tongue in cheek". During the tour, which probably saved Hugo Wiener's life, they get to know and love each other. They married and founded a bar in exile in Caracas, where Cissy Kraner performed Hugo Wiener's chansons - in a total of five languages. In 1954, they returned to Vienna for good. There they celebrated their greatest successes in the cabaret Simpl and soon also in the new medium of television, becoming stars in Germany too.

It was actually Cissy who "didn't let Hugo Wiener go to waste". He was a sensitive character and suffered all his life from the loss of his family, who were deported and murdered by the Nazis in 1941. The life-affirming Cissy and he remained a couple "for 50 happy years", even on stage: they almost always performed as a couple. Hugo Wiener wrote over 400 songs and chansons for his Cissy.

In addition to the brilliant satirical chansons, this evening of theater tells the eventful story of this artistic couple.
