Olivier Latry: Improvisation

A world-renowned soloist plays on a legendary instrument - this could be the title of Olivier Latry's encounter with the Walcker organ in Papenburg. Latry has been the titular organist of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris for almost 40 years and has performed as a virtuoso in his field in more than 50 countries. The Papenburg instrument, with its 92 stops and 7,262 pipes, is the largest organ from the Weimar Republic still preserved in Germany today. With a master of registration like Latry, this can only be exciting! With Johannes Brahms at the center, he creates interesting cross-references - to the baroque master Bach as well as to composers such as Marcel Dupré, a French classic of modernism, and Louis Vierne, a predecessor in Latry's Parisian office. There is also room for his breathtaking skills in the great tradition of French improvisation.
