Home game for author and filmmaker Heinrich Breloer in the city library
Thomas Mann would have been 150 years old on June 6. This occasion will be celebrated with a top-class matinée event:
The well-known author and filmmaker Heinrich Breloer will be presenting his book "Ein tadelloses Glück. The young Thomas Mann and the price of success". Guests can expect a breathtaking portrait of the young Thomas Mann in the battle for Katia Pringsheim.
Heinrich Breloer, who was born in Recklinghausen, has strongly influenced the image of Thomas Mann with his TV multi-part series "The Manns". At the time, Marcel Reich-Ranicki described the films as a "masterpiece" and the "pinnacle of German cinematic art". Now Breloer tells the eventful story from the years before the start of the First World War: of Thomas Mann as an ambitious young writer who has achieved his first success with "Buddenbrooks", but not yet the social standing he dreams of. He is painfully aware that this would require marriage and that his longing for the sight of male beauty must remain a secret.
