Opera by Richard Strauss / libretto by Hugo von Hofmannsthal / in German with German surtitles
With the kind support of the Theaterförderverein.
In her love for the younger Count Octavian, the married Field Marshal Princess Werdenberg feels her youth again. When he is appointed as a suitor for the money-hungry Baron Ochs auf Lerchenau, it happens: Octavian falls in love with the bride. He successfully eliminates his rival. The field marshal realizes that she has lost Octavian. And suddenly there is a flash of selflessness in a society that is doggedly pursuing its own advantage. With an artificial rococo Vienna full of invented customs and dialects, Strauss traces a deeply moving story about transience, change and love in a seemingly infinite wealth of color.
