A day of judgment takes place in the village of Huisum, but what sounds like "justice" is far from the truth.
What makes Heinrich v. Kleist's play - first performed in 1808 under the direction of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe - a comedy is the audacity with which lies are told and the truth is distorted to the point of absurdity.
It is not for nothing that it is one of the most frequently performed plays on German theater stages, because it deals with such topical issues as corruption and abuse of power.
