A family story between VILLINGEN and PARIS, presented by André Thomas!
Why did a French child spend his entire childhood and the First World War in the Black Forest with his aunt and uncle, separated from his parents who had stayed in Paris? What role did a Swiss watchmaker living in Paris play? How did the second Franco-German generation live in Paris amidst the turmoil of the Second World War?
This family history has nothing to do with the history of Alsace, as is often the case when talking about Franco-German destinies. It is rooted in the heart of Paris between the Louvre, the Tuileries, the Boulevard Saint-Germain and in Villingen, the old Black Forest Zähringer town.
Caption:
A highly symbolic photo taken on September 3, 1937.
It shows the first Franco-German generation: two German sisters and their husbands, one French, the other German. Both were seriously wounded in the First World War.
And in front of them "their" son.
