DEUTSCH-JÜDISCHE GESCHICHTE IN ZEITEN VON RECHTSPOPULISMUS UND ALTERNATIVEN FAKTEN | PODIUMSDISKUSSION

In the organizer's words:

On behalf of the Friends and Sponsors of the Leo Baeck Institute, we would like to cordially invite you to our panel discussion followed by a reception.

"German-Jewish history in times of right-wing populism and alternative facts"

Conspiracy myths and anti-Jewish stereotypes are closely linked. Whenever scapegoats are sought, an image of "the" Jews is available: as Jesus murderers and well poisoners, as capitalists and communists, as globalists and Zionists. How is our representation of German-Jewish history changing at a time when conspiracy myths and alternative facts are once again in vogue?

The panel consists of the following participants:

  • Marina Chernivsky is a psychologist and behavioral scientist. She heads the Competence Center for Education and Research Critical of Anti-Semitism. She also founded and runs the OFEK counseling center.
  • Thomas Krüger is the President of the Federal Agency for Civic Education. He studied theology and was active as a civil rights activist in the GDR.
  • Dr. Ronen Steinke is a lawyer, journalist and non-fiction author. He writes for the Süddeutsche Zeitung and has published several books on topics such as anti-Semitism, the protection of the constitution and the persecution of Jews.
  • Prof. Dr. Michael Brenner (moderator) is the President of the Leo Baeck Institute International. He researches and publishes on German-Jewish history and culture and is a professor at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich and at the American University in Washington D.C.

We are delighted that Parliamentary State Secretary Rita Schwarzelühr-Sutter will be giving a welcoming address.
