100 years of Keramische Werkstatt Margaretenhöhe - Young-Jae Lee at Hetjens
May 16 to September 1, 2024
To mark the 100th anniversary of the Margaretenhöhe Ceramics Workshop in Essen, Young-Jae Lee's pottery masterpieces will be on display.
In 1924, workshops for ceramists, goldsmiths and sculptors based on the models of an artists' colony were initially set up on the grounds of the famous Margarethenhöhe garden estate. Committed to the Bauhaus idea, the focus was initially on the production of high-quality, serially manufactured tableware. Since 1986, Korean-born Young-Jae Lee has been running the workshop (with sole responsibility since 1993), and her award-winning work has been exhibited worldwide in venues in Europe, America, Korea and Japan. In their reduced and timeless formal language, Lee's designs combine Korean traditions with the functional design ideas of the Bauhaus movement. The exhibition provides an insight into the extensive oeuvre in an expansive staging. In addition, the special show offers a historical overview of the long tradition and rich history of the Margaretenhöhe Ceramic Workshop, which dates back to the early 20th century.
