The current economic situation is causing great uncertainty for many employees. Jobs are coming under pressure, sites are being relocated and at the same time the demands on the workforce are increasing. One thing is clear: employees are not responsible for crises or bad decisions - they are the ones who keep the company running every day. That is why we are calling for jobs to be secured and investments to be made in the future.
At the same time, public budgets are also under considerable pressure. However, tight budgets must not become a pretext for postponing necessary investments or undermining social security systems. On the contrary: right now, we need a public sector that is capable of acting and that invests in infrastructure, services of general interest and good jobs, thus creating stability and prospects. This also includes a strong public sector. Possible job cuts would further exacerbate the situation, increase the workload and jeopardize the quality of public services - we firmly reject this.
At the same time, key achievements such as the 8-hour working day are under pressure. A further extension of working hours jeopardizes health, family and social participation. Our position here is clear: the protection of employees must not be weakened.
Social security must also be strengthened. A reliable pension and good healthcare for all are not privileges, but fundamental rights. We also need tangible relief in the face of rising living costs - especially for housing, energy and food.
May 1st is our common day: a day of solidarity, cohesion and commitment to good work and social justice. Let's use this day to stand up for our interests together, visibly and loudly.
We therefore call on you to take part in the actions and demonstrations on May 1, 2026 and to shape this day together.
11:30 am - Start of the demonstration Strausberger Platz (U Strausberger Platz, U5)
12:00 - Rally in front of the Red City Hall
followed by a May Day festival for the whole family in front of the Rotes Rathaus (until 15:00)
The keynote speaker this year will be Robert Feiger, Chairman of IG BAU.
Katja Karger, Chairwoman of the DGB Berlin-Brandenburg, will welcome us at the rally.
During the demonstration, many active colleagues will report on their labor disputes.
The trade union youth will also be widely audible on a second loudspeaker van.
