Hannes (Sebastian Bezzel) actually has everything he needs to be happy: a loving family, a house in the countryside and a solid career as a writer. The big bestseller years may be over, but Hannes takes it all in his stride - he simply loves being a husband and father. Only his family sees things differently: he increasingly gets on the nerves of his wife Sara (Anna Schudt) and children Carla (Kya-Celina Barucki) and Nick (Philip Müller) with his over-motivated care and late-boomer wisdom. And then everything comes at once: the publisher discontinues his novel series, Nick's prospects of graduating from high school look bleak and Carla decides to move out of home. When his wife Sara finally wants a break from the marriage and sets up a shared flat with their daughter Carla, Hannes' feel-good world is finally turned upside down. He capitulates - until he meets Vanessa (Judith Bohle). Will she, of all people, finally manage to kick Hannes out of his comfort zone?
