Professor Ruth Wolff is one of the best doctors in the country, she is co-founder and director of a research institute for Alzheimer's patients. She admits an underage patient who is hospitalized with blood poisoning. The fourteen-year-old girl had tried to have an abortion on her own. The Catholic priest who comes to administer the anointing of the sick is prevented from entering the patient's room by Ruth Wolff. Shortly afterwards, the patient dies. What follows initially appears to be a discussion about science and religion, but in the public eye it quickly turns into an escalating discussion about identity. Not only does the fact that Ruth Wolff comes from a Jewish family become an issue, but also the color of her skin and her gender.

" 'Die Ärztin' is like open-heart surgery on our present day, which gets more complicated the deeper you cut. Icke plays with our perception with virtuosity. With every change of perspective, our interpretation of events changes," writes The Times. Ankara-born director Nurkan Erpulat will stage this moral thriller. He has already proven his flair for the complexity of origin, identity and a moral compass on several occasions.
