Oskar Matzerath is tired of the world even before he is born. He is three years old when he decides to stop growing. His mother has just given him the promised and long-awaited tin drum. Oskar is driven by the overlapping events of his family environment and his time - the end of the Weimar Republic and the rise of National Socialism. At the same time, he himself is constantly playing an opaque game, using his short stature and supposed speechlessness to mime the blameless child. Accompanied by his instrument and with the help of his voice, which can shatter glass, Oskar drums against a world sinking into mercilessness.

When it was published in 1959, the novel "The Tin Drum" by future Nobel Prize winner Günter Grass caused a sensation and controversy. In 1980, the film adaptation by Volker Schlöndorff was awarded an Oscar. Theater Reutlingen Die Tonne tells the story from the frog's perspective of Oskar Matzerath, with David Liske in the leading role and the Tonne ensemble in expressive images.
