The deportation of Jews from Steel to Izbica - reading and talk with Dr. Steffen Hänschen
On the occasion of International Holocaust Remembrance Day
An event as part of the series:
How do we stop the political trend to the right? Political and civil society consequences under discussion
In April 1942, 32 Jews from Steele were deported via Düsseldorf to the Polish transit ghetto Izbica. From there, transports left for the Belzec and Sobibor extermination camps.
Izbica was the largest of the so-called transit ghettos. Around 20,000 people from six countries were deported there. From March 1942, the transports to the "Aktion Reinhardt" extermination camps took place from there.
The lecture on International Holocaust Remembrance Day sheds light on the deportations to Izbica, the events on site and how they are dealt with today.
