"Die Fledermaus" is considered the operetta of all operettas, full of waltzes, polkas, who-with-whom, champagne, mistaken identities, disguises and fraternization. How refreshing that Gabriel von Eisenstein, who wants to have some quick fun with young ladies before a prison sentence, is repaid in kind by his wife Rosalinde: with her old singing teacher Alfred. Only a tenor could be so brazen! Adele, the parlor maid, aspires to higher things, but first she goes to the ball as Miss Olga in her mistress's dress. And so all the lovable characters, who don't take the truth too seriously, arrive at Prince Orlofsky's ball. He is young, rich and bored - so an act of retribution by Dr. Falke comes at just the right time. He still has a score to settle with Eisenstein: "This is how the bat gets revenge!" Orlofsky's ball becomes a stage. And at the end, everyone meets again in prison. Mr. von Eisenstein learns who his duzbruder, the Chevalier Chagrin, really is and what the doppelganger in his robe is all about. Eisenstein's acquittal is celebrated with champagne, because after all, he alone is to blame, isn't he?
