What's actually going on behind the scenes at Theater Münster? Composer and director Nico Sauer and his team provide the surprising answer. They have the orchestra and vocals perform not on stage as usual, but in different places in the building. The activities of the theater staff, which normally take place in secret, are observed by the artists and transformed into a musical and scenic form. During a tour of the building, the sound of theater operations becomes audible and work processes are reenacted. Even the smallest details such as the typing of a computer keyboard or the screeching of a saw can become part of the composition.

The project "Die Kantine" is part of "NOperas!" - an initiative of the Fonds Experimentelles Musiktheater (feXm). Sponsored by the NRW KULTURsekretariat, it is being realized in cooperation with the Staatstheater Darmstadt and Theater Münster.
