In the organizer's words:
A little girl thinks she's God... An imaginative and poetic animated film by Maïlys Vallade and Liane-Cho Han, set in Japan and viewed through the eyes of a toddler. Based on the novel *Metaphysics of Tubes* by Amélie Nothomb. Now playing at Kino Intimes.
When little Amélie is born, she is in a sort of vegetative state: she floats as if in a bubble—no crying, no physical reactions, just curious green eyes that take everything in. For the Belgian family living in Japan, however, this is no cause for concern; they are optimistic and adore their little daughter. But on her second birthday, an earthquake shatters Amélie’s bubble, and she is thrust into a world that is completely different from what she had imagined. Only a piece of the finest Belgian chocolate manages to calm the overstimulation of her senses and allow her childlike curiosity about life to return. Full of joie de vivre, Amélie, alongside Nishio-san, her family’s housekeeper, discovers the wonders of nature and the emotional facets hidden behind their seemingly idyllic family life.
