Goethe's "The Sorrows of Young Werther" became a bestseller immediately after its publication at the Leipzig Book Fair in 1774 and was good enough for a huge media scandal in Europe.

It is the story of a loving young man whose emotional world constantly collides with merciless reality and social expectations. He loves Lotte, who inspires him with her stunning natural manner. But she is already promised to the wealthy Albert. How far does true love go?
