Die Leiden des jungen Werther - inkl. Sonntagsschmaus im Auerbachs Keller
In the organizer's words:
The Sorrows of Young Werther
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Goethe’s classic, brought to life in a gripping adaptation in the historic barrel cellar of Auerbachs Keller
“The Sorrows of Young Werther” became a bestseller in 1774 immediately after its publication at the Leipzig Book Fair and was controversial enough to spark a massive media scandal across Europe.
It is the story of a young man in love whose emotional world constantly clashes with the harsh realities of life and societal expectations. He loves Lotte, who captivates him with her stunning natural charm. But she is already betrothed to the wealthy Albert. How far does true love go? Goethe’s epistolary novel epitomizes the younger generation’s eternal search for themselves and for true love. This gives rise to a gripping interplay of tragedy and lightheartedness, comedy and melancholy—one that invites playful exploration... Werther’s love-induced frenzy ends in the only possible outcome for him.
