Die lieben Verwandten: Tandemführung - Tiere, Pflanzen und andere Wesen

In this tandem tour, curator Ute Marxreiter and biologist Susanne Lanckowsky will introduce you to living beings and other entities with which the twelve contemporary female artists featured in the rotating exhibition*Sich verwandt machen: Beziehungen pflegen* (Forming Connections: Nurturing Relationships) engage. Their diverse practices converge on the understanding that we are all woven into a dynamic web of relationships: with other people, animals, plants, spiritual beings, the cosmos—but also with our office chair.

Catherine Blackburn, for example, feels connected not only to her ancestors and the Dené people but also to the reindeer of her Canadian homeland. The Myanmar-born ceramic artist Soe Yu Nwe owes her name to three godmothers, two of whom are a tree and a well. Through her exploration of Korean shamanism and the ritual use of mulberry paper, Hague Yang forges connections to the spiritual dimension in her work.

Mallards, bison, and an iguana girl join the ranks of the friends and relatives you’ll encounter during this entertaining tour.

Ute Marxreiteris a research associate for education and outreach at the Ethnological Museum and the Museum of Asian Art.

Susanne Lanckowskyis a biologist, painter, and trained museum educator. She has researched ground beetles on Berlin’s Teufelsberg and, in the Panamanian rainforest, mother beetles caring for their babies. Since May 2025, she has been a member of the Education and Outreach team at the Museum of Ethnology and the Museum of Asian Art. She developed the concept for the public tour“Finding Common Ground & What We Hold Onto.”
