How does an object change when you give it a new shape, a new material or a new function? In this workshop, designer Malte van der Meyden invites you to get to know his practice of molding. Based on his artistic and creative work, participants will experiment with found objects. Molds are created from the available material, into which wax is then poured. This results in unique candles that follow the structures and traces of their originals - and transform everyday objects into new, unfamiliar contexts. Malte van der Meyden will also give an insight into the BLOW SHOP project: an independent, self-initiated platform dedicated to the presentation of collectable design objects and limited editions in which aesthetic quality takes precedence over functional use.
The workshop is part of the event series "Thinking & Working with Design".
Malte van der Meyden is a German multidisciplinary artist and designer who explores the relationships between objects, people and spaces through his unconventional designs of everyday objects. He graduated from the Peter Behrens School of Arts in Düsseldorf. As an object designer he is concerned with form-finding processes and the perception of objects and materials, as an artist mainly with set and room design, with a focus on forms and their space-structuring and function-giving role.
