"I don't want to be a remnant!" This sentence marks the beginning of a decades-long search by Kleinen Kronheim.
She was born in secret before 1945 as the daughter of a long-established German-Jewish merchant family. In her childhood in Berlin, she learns to listen to the living, to dream up earlier generations in her youth, to track down what has never been said and to understand the feelings between the words. Through them, past and present German-Jewish traditions and stubbornness come alive - be it in East Prussia, Breslau, Vienna, Berlin, Haifa, in the kibbutzim or in New York.
But is this a matter of course for a Jewish woman growing up in Germany after 1945? Why do we live in this country? she asks herself during her school years. And she is asked by her relatives in Haifa and New York: Why do you still live in that country?

The novel biography of Little Kronheim and her family shows that the German-Jewish experience is not over, and that what she experienced in Israel and America has been part of it for decades. It is about memories and feelings - in other words, about the question of Jewish life today.

Frank A. Stern, born in 1944 near Königsberg into a long-established Jewish merchant family, grew up in Berlin, worked in an Israeli kibbutz, studied in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Berlin. He has taught cultural, film and Jewish history in Israel, the USA, Germany and Austria, published on German-Jewish and Israeli culture, most recently on the thinker of German-Jewish modernism Franz Rosenzeig and on the films of Hedy Lamarr. Today he lives between Vienna and Tel Aviv. Die Suche der Töchter is his first novel.

Tamara Stern is an actress who was born in Berlin and grew up in Jerusalem. Today she performs on stage in Austria, Germany and Israel. Guest performances with the Austrian Action Theater Ensemble and her own musical solo shows have taken her from New York to London and Tel Aviv.
