And what to do when there's suddenly that awkward silence between childless friends - or when a disdainful look meets the crying baby? "The Days of the Hyena" deals with these questions in an honest, humorous and multi-layered way. Finnish author Saara Turunen tells the story of a writer who desperately wants to have a child. Driven by relentless ambition, she completely subordinates herself to this goal - until she suddenly finds herself in the body of a hyena, the animal known as a scavenger, alpha female and for its malicious laughter. Turunen paints an impressive picture of a body that has become alien - and tells of the disappearance of the rational in favor of an archaic, instinctive self.
