The once powerful Snow family is falling on hard times, and the fate of the family depends largely on whether 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow (played by Tom Blyth) manages to outdo his rivals and mentor his tribute to attract the attention of the Capitol. The odds are stacked against Coriolanus, however, as he has been given the task of mentoring Lucy Gray Baird (played by Rachel Zegler), the female tribute from run-down District 12 - an absolute humiliation.

But fate brings Lucy and Coriolanus inseparably together. Every decision they make could make the difference between triumph and failure. A battle breaks out on two fronts: While life and death are at stake in the arena, Coriolanus fights outside against the ever-increasing feelings for his tribute...

This is a prequel to 'The Hunger Games' series, set 64 years before the events of the first film, shortly after the so-called 'Dark Days'. These refer to the rebellion of the Districts of Panem against the Capitol. The rebellion was put down, District 13 was destroyed and the Hunger Games were introduced.
