Photographer Sigrid Schmidt studied at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig from 1958-1963; graduated as a photographer in 1963

She has worked as a freelancer since 1965 and is a member of the BBKL and the GEDOK Gruppe Leipzig | Sachsen e.V. artists' association, among others.

"The artifice of detaching things from their usual relationships and instead filling them with new meaning is reminiscent of the Surrealists' way of working. Unlike them, however, Sigrid Schmidt's works do not remain in the enigmatic and fantastic, but open our eyes to connections or perspectives that are all too readily ignored in everyday life, but which make up the essence of things. ... Her technical perfection, paired with a profoundness of content, ensures that Sigrid Schmidt's works have a high artistic status and distinguishes them from the flood of quickly shot snapshots. ...
