The club and trendy district of Dresden-Neustadt takes us on tour. It begins promisingly at the end of the 90s in relevant and legendary nightlife spots and ends unerringly in a midlife crisis at midnight.
As part of an event, visitors to Objekt klein a in Dresden's industrial area will come into contact with the history of techno clubs and DJing in Dresden's Neustadt district to varying degrees of intensity.
DJ and book author Ruede Hagelstein will provide a first introduction to the evening. In addition to unheard chapters from his book "DJs are dead", he will also bring parodies of a supposedly glamorous DJ world to the stage. Werner aka DJ Dampfer, for example, will tell us about his tough job.
Ruede Hagelstein's performance shows very impressively how the club and techno world has changed in recent years. But the story doesn't end there. In Germany, techno was seen as a unifying element between East and West after the fall of the Wall. In Dresden, it was not only, but above all, Dresden Neustadt that attracted attention with its techno clubs, some of which have become legendary. The history of the clubs shaped the history of the district and made it what it is still perceived to be today. This is illustrated by exhibits from the part of the "Techno Worlds" exhibition dedicated to Dresden in the robotron Kantine in 2024, including a video animation that shows the comings and goings of Dresden's club culture since the 1990s. Various scene media through the ages will also be on display. A sound installation deals with the phenomenon of freetekno, which has always been of particular importance in Dresden, especially in the forests around Dresden Neustadt.
After the dystopian introduction, the aim is to come to terms with the traumatic experience. This will be possible at a direct follow-up event at klein a, where Ruede Hagelstein himself will be on the turntables.
