Dora - Escape into Music is a moving documentary about the Croatian composer Dora Pejačević (1885-1923), whose works were performed in cities such as Dresden, Budapest and Vienna during her lifetime, but quickly fell into oblivion after her early death. In her native Croatia, she is almost as famous as Mozart, but internationally her name remains a largely undiscovered gem of music history.

In this film, award-winning director Tim van Beveren joins pianist Kyra Steckeweh on a search for traces of the places where Dora Pejačević lived and worked. On their journey, the two filmmakers discover the partly glamorous, partly torn era in which Dora grew up. The film shows how, in a world full of social upheaval, she searched for a way to free herself through her music. Her works reflect the deep inner conflicts and the desire for a self-determined life that she was unable to fully realize throughout her life.
