Research on dreams through intimate one-to-one encounters on the way to a new multidisciplinary work.

Dreams with Wide Angle is a research project I initiated for my residency at Ackerstadt Palast. I am researching with a library of recorded dreams that I have been collecting since 2020.

Last year, I invited guests to one-to-one sessions on selected days. I share the dreams with them and we go through different practices and observe their effect on us.

These practices are based on intuitive response and include movement, automatic writing, musical sessions with instruments or voice, dialog and documentation of the process. From this emerged the material for a future multidisciplinary work that may take a performance installation or a durational format. The invited guests are artists I know, and these intimate encounters open a space for connection and resonance with each other and with dreams. Tonight I am happy to share thoughts and small excerpts of this process.

Biliana Voutchkova is a composer, performer, violinist, interdisciplinary artist, improviser, educator and curator with a highly individual, unconventionally dynamic artistic language. Through the prism of listening, her early training in classical music and years of development as a contemporary artist and performer, she explores states of spontaneity and intuitive resonance that are reflected in her diverse activities, focusing on the connection between inner world and sound space. Biliana works internationally as a soloist and in collaboration with many renowned artists/ensembles. She is founder and curator of the DARA String Festival, lecturer in composition at the Academy of Arts Bern, SHAPE+ Platform artist for 2022/2023 and recipient of several grants and awards. Her music has been released on the labels Unsounds, Another Timbre, Elsewhere, Relative Pitch Records, Confront Recordings, Inexhaustible Editions and Takuroku.
