Adi spends the summer before university in his home village in the Romanian Danube Delta, surrounded by an impressively beautiful landscape. One night he becomes the victim of a homophobic attack. However, it is not the perpetrators who are punished, but Adi himself. His parents lock him up. The devil is to be cast out of him by the priest. The local police remain passive and silent.

Emanuel Pârvu's coming-of-age drama about exclusion and violence and love and freedom shows a young man facing homophobia, corrupt circumstances and religious blindness. The family in this film is a reflection of the country and society; the pace of the film as well as the location and local color carry a dense web of metaphors and show a clear moral statement.

"Three Kilometers..." screened in competition in Cannes in 2024 and received the "Queer Palm", the festival's independent LGBT award. Following its success at the festival, the film was submitted as Romania's entry for the 2025 Oscars.
