Dressed Like Boys

After a successful headline tour in the fall and appearances at indie favourites such as Haldern Pop and Reeperbahn Festival, Dressed Like Boys will be returning to Germany next May. He will be bringing his debut album "Dressed Like Boys" with him, which was released in August and moves between shimmering 70s aesthetics and poignant vocals. Whether with his band behind him or alone at the piano, Dressed Like Boys is particularly impressive on stage with his voice and the approachability with which he conveys the stories.

Belgian musician Jelle Denturck has made a name for himself in recent years as the lead singer of the indie rock band DIRK. with heavier sounds. But in the band context, he never gave too many personal insights or thought spirals to the end. A solo project was needed - and so Dressed Like Boys was born. Detached from DIRK. he was able to reflect on intimate thoughts and package them in poetic lyrics and a softer sound palette. The timeless singer/songwriter sound is inspired by legendary artists such as Elton John, David Bowie, John Lennon, Nina Simone and Sufjan Stevens. From odes to his homeland to dark times after the death of his mother and addiction among his friends, his debut album of the same name depicts important episodes in the singer/songwriter's life. Dressed Like Boys also explores his identity as a queer man on the album and highlights important moments in queer history with songs such as "Jaouad" and "Stonewall Riots Forever".
