EARTH
+ Nataša Grujović & Steve Moore
Once characterized by relentless riffs drilling through distorted walls of sound, EARTH have developed an expansive sonic universe over the decades. Today, minimalist doom, ambient country, avant-garde folk and psychedelic rock merge into an idiosyncratic distortion of time - a conscious rejection of genre boundaries, carried by Carlson's meditative guitar playing.
The legendary rock innovators rely on improvisation: every performance resembles a mirage - songs emerge, blossom briefly, disintegrate and reshape themselves. In more recent works, Carlson has reduced the effects to focus on repetition, space and texture rather than mere volume. Wild calm and luminous currents now define the soundscape. Live, these changes manifest themselves as meditative expanses punctuated by eruptive moments of torn energy - hovering between stillness and storm.
With accordion, analog synthesizers and trombone, Nataša Grujović and Steve Moore create breathing resonance spaces - between drone, spiritual jazz and the echoes of Western classical music. In their soundscapes, the tangible and the transcendental merge into a floating intensity.
Born in Serbia, Grujović has been exploring the physical presence of sound on experimental stages in Europe for years - from the Luxembourg Pavilion at the Venice Biennale to the Off-Festival Donaueschingen and the Ring Ring Festival in Belgrade.
Seattle-born Moore - trombonist, pianist and composer - brings decades of experience working with Sufjan Stevens, Neko Case and Bill Frisell, as well as his long-standing involvement with EARTH and sunnO))).
