Echoes of Tumult brings together artistic positions that not only document violence, systemic failure and vulnerability, but also seek ways of dealing with the painful realities they address: The artists are in varying degrees of proximity to the issues they address and bring a wide range of speculative and documentary approaches, sensual and theatrical strategies and personal perspectives to bear. The works presented thus resonate in various ways with circumstances determined by ecological crises, geopolitical interests and war. They consciously bring us into contact with painful and complex situations and sometimes find unexpected solidarity and hope between conflict and resistance.
Echoes of Tumult fans out an affective field of resonances and disturbances that, with the neighboring exhibition spaces Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien and daadgalerie, extends across two central artistic points of reference in Berlin.
The exhibition is part of the CTM Festival, which will take place in 2026 under the title "dissonate < > resonate", and enters into an exchange with its concert and discourse program. The starting point for the creation of the exhibition is the cooperation of three organizations: iii - instrument inventors initiative, DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program and CTM Festival, which share a common interest in the interfaces of sound and art with socio-political contexts, historical perspectives and technological developments. Echoes of Tumult presents works by artists from the networks of the three organizations: the production of the majority of these works was made possible by residencies and projects of the partners.
The CTM Festival 2026 will take place from January 23 to February 1 at various venues in Berlin.
