„Echokammer Deutschland - Fotografische Positionen zum Rechtsruck in Deutschland“ / Triennale der Photographie Hamburg Expanded

In the organizer's words:

As part of the Triennial of Photography Hamburg, the newly founded documentary photography network SHIFT is presenting a joint exhibition for the first time.

Eight photographic positions deal with the political shift to the right in Germany and the visual staging of right-wing actors.

The exhibition "Echokammer Deutschland - Fotografische Positionen zum Rechtsruck in Deutschland" brings together works by documentary photographers from all over Germany. The projects examine different aspects of the topic: from the media self-portrayal of right-wing extremist parties to places of right-wing motivated violence and people who move in the field of tension of right-wing movements. Civil society involvement and counter-movements are also documented.

The exhibition is being created against the backdrop of the increasing political shift to the right in Germany and Europe, which has also shaped the work of many documentary photographers.

SHIFT sees itself as an association of photographers with a long-term interest in political and social developments in Germany. The aim of the network is to make documentary projects visible together and to strengthen the exchange between photography, the public and journalism.

Participating in the exhibition are:

Thomas Victor ("Quatro"),

Paula Markert ("Forms of Representation"),

Felix Adler ("Germany in Autumn"),

Rafael Heygster ("Democracy Dies in Daylight"),

Stella Weiß and Rosa Burczyk ("And Tomorrow Nothing Like Yesterday"),

Jonathan Funk ("Ortskontrollfahrt"),

Fabian Ritter ("The Return of a New Fascism in Germany"),

Julius Schien ("Rechtes Land")

The participating photographers work for international media such as the Washington Post and National Geographic. Their work has won numerous awards - including a World Press Photo Award. They are regularly exhibited internationally.

With SHIFT, together with curator Christin Müller, they are bringing together their documentary projects for the first time to present a joint view of social developments in Germany.

In addition to the exhibition, a supporting program with guided tours, panel discussions and film screenings is planned to provide space for exchange on documentary photography and current social developments.

The vernissage will take place on June 7, 2026 from 12 to 3 pm in Hamburg, in the Gleishalle Oberhafen.

The exhibition runs from 05.06 to 14.06 and is open on weekends from 11:00 to 20:00 and from 08-12.06 from 12:00 to 18:00
