Eerst starven denn arven

A comedy in three acts by Peter Weissflog. Performed in High and Low German
The old plantation owner Gustav Segensreich is dying, cared for by his German partner Elvira. Mortician Frederico is already waiting to take him away. But then Gustav's daughter, with whom he has broken off all contact and disinherited, suddenly appears. She is on vacation in Gran Canaria and wants to reconcile with her father. An extremely inopportune moment. "You're interrupting his death!" says Elvira.
Gustav dies very theatrically and is laid out, but he is soon lively again. He is hidden in the cellar because Elvira wants to collect a large insurance sum to avert the ruin of the plantation.
Now a turbulent game of hide-and-seek begins: Gustav's daughter moves into the house to help the grieving widow, which of course doesn't suit her at all. An insurance detective investigates, the mortician becomes intrusive, and at the worst possible moment, the deceased in his white death shroud emerges from the cellar like a ghostly apparition.
Is the daughter involved with the mortician?
Is the insurance investigator the mortician's brother?
Will Elvira be able to collect the insurance money, or has her game of hide-and-seek been seen through long ago?
