Margulis Trio

The supposedly familiar in an unusual form - that is the motto of this concert. It was put together by violinist Alissa Margulis, who has a close relationship with the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra and is co-curating the "Eigenzeit" festival this time. Together with her siblings, she plays classics from the history of music, which she dresses in unusual sounds in various formations in order to create new listening experiences for the essentially familiar pieces. After an original piano trio by Joaquín Turina, the program includes Bach's famous "Chaconne", a solitary highlight of the literature for solo violin - which can be discovered here in Busoni's piano arrangement. Shostakovich actually only wrote his atmospheric preludes for the white and black keys; in this evening's version, they are presented together with the violin. The diabolical 'Danse macabre' by Saint-Saëns was originally intended for orchestra, but is now played on the piano. Incidentally, Mussorgsky composed the original version of his "Pictures at an Exhibition" for this purpose; however, the work became even more popular in Ravel's brilliant orchestration - and the Margulis Trio now explores the tone-painting cycle with chamber music means.
